Young Harris woman faces drug and obstruction charges
Arrest Reports, News March 11, 2019
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – On Saturday, March 2, Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on King Cove Road in Young Harris, in reference to a domestic incident. Upon arrival, deputies reported that a white, female subject was located in the yard of the residence. Following an initial investigation, the female was arrested after deputies spoke with the subject.

Summer Wilson
Summer Dawn Wilson, 40, of Morganton, NC, was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- One Count Violation of Georgia Controlled Substance Act (Posession of Methamphetamine)
- One Count Drug-Related Objects
- Two Counts Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer
- One Count Simple Battery
Towns County Sheriff’s Office informed that Wilson resisted arrest on scene, leading to the obstruction charges.
The case will be fowarded to Enotah Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Wilson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Young Harris traffic stop results in meth arrest
News May 20, 2019
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – On Saturday, May 18, a Towns County Sheriff’s Office Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 76 in Young Harris that resulted in a felony drug arrest. A deputy stopped a black Chevrolet pickup on a traffic offense and discovered illegal drugs within the pickup upon further investigation.
Frederic Debray, 61, of Morganton, Georgia was arrested without incident and charged with One Count of Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, Possession of Methamphetamine.
Towns County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation as “currently active and ongoing.” The case will be referred to the Enotah Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Debray is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary suspect arrested in alleged Hiawassee theft
News September 16, 2019HIAWASSEE, Ga. – Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on State Highway 76 in Hiawassee Wednesday, Sept. 11 in reference to a reported burglary. Upon arrival, deputies met with the homeowners who advised a white male had entered the residence, leaving the area on foot. A lookoiut was placed on the subject and a perimeter was formed by law enforcement. A deputy located the suspect at a Hiawassee restaurant shorthy thereafter. The items reported as stolen from the residence were recovered with the exception of a cellular phone.
Hubert Gibson, 54, of Blue Ridge, GA was identified as the suspect involved.
Gibson was arrested without incident and charged with burglary, theft by taking, and criminal trespass.
Towns County Sheriff’s Offiice extends appreciation to Hiawassee Police Department for their assistance in seachung the area for the suspect. The case will be forwarded to the Enotah Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Gibson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Restaurant owner charged in fatal Hiawassee accident
News August 20, 2019
HIAWASSEE, Ga. – Jacalyn Ann Gagnon, 68, was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle in the 2nd degree Aug, 17 after an accident claimed the life of a local motorcyclist.

Gagnon, the owner and operator of Papa’s Pizza, was attempting to turn from U.S. 76 into the restaurant’s parking lot on the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 13 when the vehicle she was driving collided with a motorcycle driven by 59 year old Randy Barnes of Hiawassee.
Barnes suffered severe trauma as a result of the crash, and was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he died during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Gagnon was additionally charged with failure to yield while turning left. The vehicular homicide charge is listed on the arrest report as a misdemeanor offense.
Georgia State Patrol investigated the fatal accident.

HIAWASSEE, Ga.- A Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputy engaged in the pursuit of a fleeing vehicle, following an attempted traffic stop, Wednesday, Aug. 14, on State Route 288 in Hiawassee.

Patrick Ryan Oakes, 40, of Hiawassee, led authorities on a short chase this afternoon before wrecking the white Chevrolet SUV that he was driving, causing slight damage to a county patrol vehicle. Towns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the suspect was subdued by taser prior to his arrest. Oakes was transported by deputies to the Towns County Detention Center in Young Harris.

Oakes is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
UPDATED: Oakes was initially charged with driving too fast for conditions and failure to drive within a single lane. Additional charges are in pending status. Oakes is being held without bond as of Aug. 15.

Female fugitive found hiding in Hiawassee home
News July 13, 2019HIAWASSEE, Ga. – On Tuesday, July 9, Towns County Sheriff’s Office received information that a subject who was on the run and wanted on two warrants from several different locations was hiding out at a residence located in the area. Deputies, acting on the information received, searched a residence located on Michael’s Way in Hiawassee, and located a female suspect hiding in a closet within the residence.
The female was identified as Stephanie Elaine Hamilton, 40, of Hiawassee, Georgia. Deputies confirmed that Hamilton was wanted on a total of six warrants.
The warrants were out of Union, Fannin, and Rabun counties in Georgia, as well as one from Oconee County, South Carolina.
The warrants were theft related, along with one probation warrant. Deputies arrested Hamilton without incident.
