Ms. Edna Harrison Beavers, age 91, of McCaysville, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 31, 2019. She was born in the Staffordtown community, in Copperhill, TN, on August 27, 1928, to the late Grady & Edith Chancey Harrison.

Debra Lynn O’Neal Davenport, age 68 of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in Blairsville, GA. Mrs. Davenport was born April 23, 1951 in Sugar Creek, GA to the late Joseph Tech & Essie Mosley O’Neal. Mrs. Davenport attended Glen Hope Baptist Church and is a graduate of Fannin County High School. She goes on to be with her husband, as well as, parents, sisters and brother, Joe, Kemp, Sue, Hazel, Kay, Orlo, Windsor and Wilma Ann.

Debra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed her job at Ingles Market as a cashier, always giving a little extra love and happiness to those she came in contact with.

She will be remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her daughters, Doris (Ed) St. Romain, April (Robert) Hatchett, and Elizabeth Davenport Kline; son, Joshua (Heather) Davenport, siblings, Carroll, Odra, Irby, Jan and Glen “Boo”; grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Jessie, Sarah, Hailey, Caleb, Brac, Elisha, Samuel, and Averi; and many nieces and nephews. Also sharing in her legacy is special friend Mary Kay Akins Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, from the Glen Hope Baptist Church at 11:00 am, with Rev. Lamarr O’Neal and Rev. James Worley officiating. Special music will be provided by The O’Neals. Interment will follow in the O’Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Edward St. Romain; Joshua Davenport, Robert Hatchett, Mike Bowers and Craig O’Neal have been requested to serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Michael W McCray, age 60, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. Mr. McCray was born January 18, 1959, in Murphy, NC, to the late Theron McCray and Ellavee Canup McCray. He was a member of Fires Creek Baptist Church, enjoyed working outside, and loved spoiling on his pet bird ‘Baby.’ Mr. McCray was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Ware, brothers, Clifton McCray, Roy McCray, and Ronald McCray.

Survivors include his wife, Anna M. McCray, sisters, Arthel Davis, Clara Davis, Helen Oliver, Anna Lou Ware, and Betty Carter, brothers, Everett McCray and Ralph McCray.

Mr. Thomas Leroy Pickelsimer, age 90, of the Peachtree Community, Murphy, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019. Mr. Pickelsimer was born March 9, 1929, in Epworth, GA, to the late J.D. Pickelsimer and the late Minnie White Pickelsimer. He was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Pickelsimer graduated from Epworth High School in 1948. He joined the Army on November 7, 1950, receiving the Occupation Medal while serving in Japan. Tom continued his education attending and graduating in 1954, from Young Harris Junior College. Two years later he graduated in 1956, from Georgia State College with a degree in Business Management. He worked as an Insurance Agent with Prudential Insurance, was a Sales Manager with Paul Revere Insurance Co., was a Credit and Collection Manager for Royal Typewriter with Litton Industries, and worked in real estate in Cherokee Co. before retiring. Tom was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Pickelsmer, mother, Minnie White Pickelsimer, sisters, Lois Troll and Jeanette White, and brothers, Wayne Pickelsimer and Lewis Pickelsimer.

Survivors include his wife, Inez M. Pickelsimer, brother, J. D. Pickelsimer, sisters, Opal Mitchell, Maxine Wood, Irene Larrea, and Tressie Camp, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 2:00 pm from the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul King, Dr. Chester Jones, and Rev. Noah Crowe officiating. Mary Maxine Fuller, age 86 of Cherrylog, GA passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019, in Blue Ridge, GA. Mrs. Fuller was born October 12, 1932, in McCaysville, GA to the late Jasper C. Ray and the late Amanda Dilbeck Ray. A member of the United Methodist faith, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Fuller, and her sister, Eva Jean Scism. Mrs. Fuller worked as a computer programmer at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and retired in 1990. Maxine enjoyed crocheting and painting in her spare time and will be greatly missed by her family.

Survivors include: son, David (Kimberly) Fuller; sister, Shirley Mae Ray; grandson, Benjamin Aaron Fuller; and nephew, Ray Lynn Scism.

Mr. John Noel “Mousey” Nicholson, age 80, passed away on August 24, 2019 following an extended illness. Noel was born in Hiawassee, Georgia on December 8, 1938 to the late Boyd and Montree (Garrett) Nicholson. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Enotah Baptist Church for 30 years. Noel, better know as “Mousey”, was a great outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing with his loving wife Joyce and they would often take a picnic to the lake. He also took Joyce along on his coon hunting trips and would comment that she was slow walking in but made her way out of the woods a lot quicker. Mousey could tell stories and captivated anyone who sat down to listen to his tales. He also had a love for sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. He was an avid supporter of his country and his president and served in the United States Army for a two year term. He had a green thumb and grew a garden big enough to feed Towns county every year and was quick to give away the vegetables he harvested to those who needed them. Noel was a family man and cherished his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his brother, M.L. Nicholson sister, Jeanette Chastain and grandson, Baby Boy Derochie. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mrs. Joyce Jones Nicholson; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bert Rogers of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter, Denise Nicholson of Franklin, North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Stacey Derochie of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Forrest and Mary Derochie of Hiawassee, Georgia; brothers, Kenneth Nicholson, Lowell Nicholson and Gary Nicholson, all of Hiawassee, Georgia; sister, Jackie Gilreath of Canton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 more on the way; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

It is with sadness that the family of Luva (Lu) Marie Stoll Whetstone of Mineral Bluff, Georgia announces her death on Friday, August 16, 2019. Lu Whetstone was born in Geauga County, Ohio on November 13, 1928, to Derlin Stoll and Pearl Kightlinger Stoll. She is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Whetstone, her sister, Arlene Gotham, and brother Rowland Stoll.

In early adulthood, Lu Whetstone worked as a bank teller and later was trained in cosmetology, operating a salon out of her home in Parkman, Ohio. After the family moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1963, she was a homemaker.

Lu Whetstone is survived by four children, William John Whetstone (and wife Jan) of Dawsonville, Georgia; Gary Lee Whetstone (and wife Diane) of Athens, Georgia; Mona Lynn Johnson (and husband Scott) of Blytheville, Arkansas; and Pamela Gailey (and husband Mike) of Mineral Bluff, Georgia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; members of her loving, extended family (Joe Whetstone, Fannie Detweiler, Anna Whetstone, Marvin Whetstone, Mary Weaver); nieces and nephews.

Lu Whetstone was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church in McCaysville, Georgia. A service of celebration will be held there on Monday, August 19, 2019, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Edith Mae Foster, age 95 of Morganton, GA, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019, at her home.
Mrs. Foster was born November 5, 1923 in Medicine Lodge, KS to the late Jonathan Adams and the late Francis Mathias Adams. Mrs. Foster grew up in Arthur NB and met and married Glen in 1942 in Long Beach California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen E. Foster and sons Billy Joe Foster and Robert Foster.
Survivors include sons: John Foster, Glen Foster, and James Foster; daughters, Fran Payne, Nancy Mote, and Lisa Mallari, nineteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Foster loved spending time with her grandchildren, working crossword puzzles and doing arts and crafts. She will be greatly missed by her family.
A Graveside service will be held at Liberty Hill UMC.

Mr. Matthew Sean Eggley 41, of Hayesville,NC passed away to soon, on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019. He was the most amazing husband, father, friend, and he loved his God, Jehovah. Matt never met a stranger, and always saw the good in people. Matt loved people so much that he dedicated his life to Jehovah God on July 8th, 1995, so that he could tell people about the loving God he served. He loved telling people about Jehovah so much that he reached one of his goals of pursing his ministry full time. Matt would often express his hope for the future, by telling ones, his favorite scripture, found at Revelation 21:3,4 “..And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Matt wanted all to know about Godʼs kingdom and the benefits they could gain through that kingdom. One hope that was close to his heart was the resurrection hope. He knew that he would see his grandparents again in a beautiful paradise, here on earth. Psalms 37:10-11; Acts 24:15; John 5:28-29. Matt took pride in being a father. Everything he did, he did it with his girls in mind. All felt that they knew his girls by how much he talked about them. Matt adored his wife Susan, she truly completed him. Matt enjoyed watching his teams the Chicago Bears, and especially the Cubs, with his wife right beside him. He loved animals, often going to the Humane Society, “just to look” he would say, only to bring home another baby. He enjoyed Jehovahʼs creation and being outside,fishing. Matt would often be seen with a bag of Frito Lays and a Pepsi, in his hand. Mr. Eggley was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman and Virginia Hawn. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife, Susan Elizabeth Eggley. His beautiful daughters, Reece Eggley, Erin Eggley, and Kristeena Eggley. His parents Edward and Lynn Eggley. His sisters Cherity and Larry Breazeale, April and John Hall. His brother Dustin and Melanie Eggley. His nieces and nephews; Jordan, Isaiah,Tyler, Trenton, Kendall, Brianna, Austin, Jonathan, Naomi, and Ezekiel. And when he married Susan he inherited more parents, Michael and Terry Greene, and a lot more sisters and brothers, and a brother and sister in law, that became good friends to him, Exevier and Patricia Dunlap.
