Mrs. Pauline Thomas Sosebee, age 74 of Blairsville, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Sosebee was born August 11, 1944 in Blairsville, GA to Gus and Dolly Stephens Thomas. Pauline was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Zebulon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Sosebee and a grandchild, Tracy Holder. Pauline had a wonderful sense of humor and was fun to be around. She would always make you smile. She loved her family. Pauline enjoyed Country Music and working word puzzles. She liked long walks and working in her flowers. Survivors include: daughters, Lisa Sosebee(Travis) Nichols of Young Harris, Sheila Sosebee (Jeff) Holder of Blairsville, and Jennifer Sosebee (Charles) Benton of Danielsville, GA, 4 grandchildren, Joshua Benton, Nolan Lee, Clay Pickelsimer and Gage Holder and one great grandchild, Abigail Lee. Many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 5th in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Terry Sosebee and Minister Terry Stuart officiating. Music will be provided by Jason Pickelsimer and Robert Duckworth. Interment will follow in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery by her beloved husband, Robert. Serving as pallbearers: Joshua Benton, Nolan Lee, Clay Pickelsimer, Jeff Holder, Jason Pickelsimer, and Michael Pickelsimer. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Gage Holder. Mr. Jack Walter Housley, age 87, of Epworth, GA, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday morning, July 30, 2019. Jack was born on July 15, 1932, in Epworth, GA, to the late Lester G. & Naomi Galloway Housley.
Jack retired from Tennessee Chemical Company in the late 1980s and went on to also retire from truck driving in 2007. He enjoyed gardening, Nascar and community work, as well as, a special devotion to his family and his church. He was awarded the honor of a fifty-year pin from McCay Lodge #423 F&AM and served as a deacon for Bethel Church for over thirty-eight years. He greatly enjoyed singing with Bethel Choir and being an active part of the bus ministry. Jackie goes on to be with his parents as well as his brothers, Jerry Housley and Jim Housley.
He will be remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Shirley Qualls Housley; Children, Jackie Housley, Diane West, Rick Housley, and Andy Housley; brother, Max Housley, and sister, Bobbie Jean Phillips. Also sharing in his legacy are ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Church on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Doug Payne, officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Foster, Butch Pittman, Stacy Curtis, Ray Stillwell, Rick Curtis, and Larry Dilbeck. Special Music will be provided by Benny & T.C. Georgia Delores Corn Hooper: Obituary

Mrs. Georgia Delores Corn Hooper, age 98 of Salisbury, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with loved ones on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Alpha Concord Plantation in Salisbury. She was born April 3, 1921 in Union County, Georgia to the late John Crowell Corn and Martha Jane Rich Corn. Her husband of over 50 years, Frank Woodrow Hooper and her son, Donald Frank Hooper, her sister, Ruby Corn Hooper and four brothers, Buell, Frank, Robert and Roy Corn all preceded
her in death.
Affectionately, called “Georgie”, she served her Lord well; teaching Sunday School for many years at Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC and later at South China Grove Baptist Church in China Grove. Upon her retirement from the washcloth dept. at Plant 1, Cannon Mills in 1978, she moved back home to Blairsville, GA and was instrumental in beginning a vacation bible school at her home church, New Harmony
Baptist in Blairsville. After the death of her husband, she relocated back to North Carolina to be close to her older son, Donald and his family in Salisbury. Georgia would daily eat lunch at the China Grove Civic Center where she would jokingly say, “she just went to cheer up the old folks.” After an illness and a fall in 2014, Georgia moved to Alpha Concord
Plantation in Salisbury and was lovingly care for by the wonderful staff there.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Harold Wayne Hooper and his wife Dorella, from Albuquerque, NM, and her daughter in-law, Shirley Hooper of Salisbury. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ron Hooper (Veronica), Tammy Hooper, Sandra Kiker, Randel Hooper (Courtney), Betty Fowler (Mark), Kevin Hooper (Juli) and Scott Hooper (Missy). Also surviving her are half-sisters, Mattie B. Chappelear and Althea Pickelsimer (Nelson) and half-brothers, Johnny Corn (Carolyn) and Bill Corn (Betty) along with two sisters in-law, Edith Corn and Kay Corn and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Hooper was held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. A second visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Funeral service will be at New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville on
Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. Phil Goble, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC, Georgia’s former pastor. Interment will follow the service at New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.linn-honeycutt.com. Harvey Claude Johns: Obituary

Mr. Harvey Claude Johns, age 93 of Blairsville passed away at his home on Thursday morning, July 18, 2019 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born on Sunday, November 1st, 1925 in Fulton County, GA to the late James Claude Johns and the late Eula Martin Johns.

He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Coosa United Methodist Church. He worked for General Motors for most of his career, and lived and traveled across the world for over 35 years. He retired in 1985, after serving as a Zone Manager for Chevrolet Motor Division in Kansas City, and he and his wife, Mary Johns, relocated permanently to Blairsville, where they enjoyed many years with friends and family.

Harvey joined the US Navy during World War II and served aboard an LCM in the South Pacific operating from the once held Japanese Atoll of Eniwetok located in the Marshall Islands. His medals and awards include WWII Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

Surviving Harvey are his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Jerry Wells of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Greg Bousquet of Northville, MI; granddaughter, Stacey Jacobs, grandson-in-law, Michael Jacobs, great-grandson, Walker Jacobs of Milton, GA; grandson, Connor Graham of Chicago, IL; sister, Betty Jo Bates of Atlanta, GA; sister Jean Tanner of Tucker, GA; brother, Martin Johns of Cumming, GA ; brother, Carl Johns of Atlanta, GA; his good friend, Linda Jirik; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Savage officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service begins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Harvey’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org; or the Blairsville Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 1732 Blairsville GA 30514.

Mr. Vaughn Earl Green, age 79, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness. Vaughn was born November 6, 1939 to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Robert and Edna (Dyer) Green in Young Harris, Georgia. Vaughn was a kind gentle man who loved his family dearly. He was one of those people who always had good things to say and made you feel comfortable talking to him. He attended Young Harris college where he was on the first basketball team the college had. He worked for the CDC from 1967 until he retired in 2001. After retirement Vaughn spent much of his time playing golf, bowling and tennis. Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister Pamela Ann Green Anderson. He leaves behind his love Barbara Mathis, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Carolyn Green; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine (Green) and Wayne Barrios, a son and daughter-in-law he joyfully gained through his life with Barbara, Ricky and Robin Mathis; along with their two children Hannah Gladfelter and Heather Mathis and a bonus great-grandbaby Brynn Gladdfelter along with two nieces and four nephews and their twelve children.

Mrs. Glenia Cromer Barrett, age 68, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at her home with her daughter by her side. Glenia was born in Luner, KY, on May 20, 1950, a daughter of the late Arlie Ralph Cromer, and the late Zelma Fern Doan Cromer. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Those left to celebrate her life are her children: Michael Wallen and Denise of Carnesville, GA, and Diana Arrowood and Emmitt of Hiawassee, GA; her grandson: Michael William Wallen; her brothers: Keith, Calvin, Joe, Marvin, Melvin Cromer, and brother in law Everett Renner; her sisters: Sylvia Rice, Bernice Mink, Nina Mink, Phyllis Cox, and Zelma Gabbard; as well as a host of several niece, nephews, friends and neighbors. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Albert Barrett, and a sister Naomi Renner.

Services for Mrs. Barrett will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, beginning with the visitation from 11am – 2pm followed by the funeral at 2pm, with Bro. Ova Baker. Burial will follow in the Albert Mink Cemetery.

Mr. Roger Neal Anderson, age 73, of Young Harris, Georgia passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. He was born March 28, 1945 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ray and Mallie (Wooten) Anderson in Waynesville, North Carolina. “Andy” was the seventh child out of twelve born to Ray and Mallie. He served in the United States Army as a Chaplain Assistant and drove General Abrams during the Vietnam era. After serving his country he came home and became an Operations Manager in the trucking industry for many years. Andy collected antique tractors, enjoyed going to the dirt track, and was a great story teller. In his later years he spent a great deal of time visiting with his brothers. Of all the things he enjoyed doing spending time with his grandkids was his favorite.

Mr. Anderson is preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Mrs. Charlotte Beaver Anderson; brothers, Jude, Ray Mercer Jr, Kenneth, and Lynwood; and sisters Joanne Proksch and Brenda Teems. He is survived by the love of his life Mrs. Frances Norton; sons and daughters-in-law Drew and Jackie Anderson, Kenny and Tori Norton; son Matt Anderson; daughter Dana Flores; daughter and son-in-law Penny and Terry Ledford; grandchildren Blaze Flores, Cole Ledford, Emily Ledford, Avis Norton, Kobe Hulsey; brothers Lane, Tommy, Terry, Robert and sister Peggy Henson. Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends March 2, 2019 from Noon until 1:00P at Little Brasstown Church located at 6120 Harshaw Rd. Brasstown, North Carolina 28902. Memorial service will begin at 1:00P with Rev Aud Brown officiating.

Debra Lynn O’Neal Davenport, age 68 of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in Blairsville, GA. Mrs. Davenport was born April 23, 1951 in Sugar Creek, GA to the late Joseph Tech & Essie Mosley O’Neal. Mrs. Davenport attended Glen Hope Baptist Church and is a graduate of Fannin County High School. She goes on to be with her husband, as well as, parents, sisters and brother, Joe, Kemp, Sue, Hazel, Kay, Orlo, Windsor and Wilma Ann.

Debra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed her job at Ingles Market as a cashier, always giving a little extra love and happiness to those she came in contact with.

She will be remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her daughters, Doris (Ed) St. Romain, April (Robert) Hatchett, and Elizabeth Davenport Kline; son, Joshua (Heather) Davenport, siblings, Carroll, Odra, Irby, Jan and Glen “Boo”; grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Jessie, Sarah, Hailey, Caleb, Brac, Elisha, Samuel, and Averi; and many nieces and nephews. Also sharing in her legacy is special friend Mary Kay Akins Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, from the Glen Hope Baptist Church at 11:00 am, with Rev. Lamarr O’Neal and Rev. James Worley officiating. Special music will be provided by The O’Neals. Interment will follow in the O’Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Edward St. Romain; Joshua Davenport, Robert Hatchett, Mike Bowers and Craig O’Neal have been requested to serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Michael W McCray, age 60, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. Mr. McCray was born January 18, 1959, in Murphy, NC, to the late Theron McCray and Ellavee Canup McCray. He was a member of Fires Creek Baptist Church, enjoyed working outside, and loved spoiling on his pet bird ‘Baby.’ Mr. McCray was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Ware, brothers, Clifton McCray, Roy McCray, and Ronald McCray.

Survivors include his wife, Anna M. McCray, sisters, Arthel Davis, Clara Davis, Helen Oliver, Anna Lou Ware, and Betty Carter, brothers, Everett McCray and Ralph McCray.

Mr. Thomas Leroy Pickelsimer, age 90, of the Peachtree Community, Murphy, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019. Mr. Pickelsimer was born March 9, 1929, in Epworth, GA, to the late J.D. Pickelsimer and the late Minnie White Pickelsimer. He was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Pickelsimer graduated from Epworth High School in 1948. He joined the Army on November 7, 1950, receiving the Occupation Medal while serving in Japan. Tom continued his education attending and graduating in 1954, from Young Harris Junior College. Two years later he graduated in 1956, from Georgia State College with a degree in Business Management. He worked as an Insurance Agent with Prudential Insurance, was a Sales Manager with Paul Revere Insurance Co., was a Credit and Collection Manager for Royal Typewriter with Litton Industries, and worked in real estate in Cherokee Co. before retiring. Tom was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Pickelsmer, mother, Minnie White Pickelsimer, sisters, Lois Troll and Jeanette White, and brothers, Wayne Pickelsimer and Lewis Pickelsimer.

Survivors include his wife, Inez M. Pickelsimer, brother, J. D. Pickelsimer, sisters, Opal Mitchell, Maxine Wood, Irene Larrea, and Tressie Camp, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 2:00 pm from the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul King, Dr. Chester Jones, and Rev. Noah Crowe officiating. Music provided by: Peachtree Memorial Church Choir. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Chris King, Jimmy Robinson, Matt Rogers, Steve Christopher, Eric Teague, and Mack Cowan.
