Joann Toncos, age 69 of Hiawassee, Ga. passed away Thursday May 2, 2019 at her home with family by her side. Mrs.Toncos was born April 30, 1950 in Queens, New York to James and Velma (Madden) Meddowcroft. She moved with her family to Hollywood, Florida in 1967. She worked in a trauma center for 14 years and another in West Palm Beach for 16 years where she was a secretary in the Emergency Room. Joann and her husband, Jim moved to the mountains in 2007 where they were enjoying retirement from their mountain top home overlooking Lake Chatuge. Mrs. Toncos was a kidney/pancreas transplant recipient and prospered for 22 years until succumbing to cancer on May 2, 2019. Joann loved life, her family, many friends, and her beloved animals.
Those left to share in her legacy include: husband of 39 years, John James “Jim” Toncos; sister, Barbara Meddowcroft; brother, Michael Meddowcroft; and many nieces and nephews locally and in Florida. She also has an aunt and several cousins in New York.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service planned for June 23, 2019 for family and friends.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mr. Fairley Holden, age 63 of Hiawassee who passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, following a brief illness.
Fairley was born on February 20, 1956 in Hayesville, North Carolina to the late Plez & Ruby (Anderson) Holden. He loved his Lord and he loved his family. Always supportive, cheerful, and joyful- He was loved dearly by his family and friends. Fairley was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Highly respected, Fairley was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 30 years at Vulcan Materials in Clayton, GA. As a staunch warrior for God, he was supportive in food banks and active in the helping others. He was a member and regular attendee at First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC. He was a big guy- with a big heart.
Fairley will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: loving wife, Sherry Holden; children, Jeff & Amanda Holden and Sara Ledford; grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, and Aaron Holden, and Cooper Ledford; siblings, Marilyn & William Long, Opelene & Watson Stephens, Janet & Larry Sams, Kathryn & Charlie Morgan, Jack & Gail Holden, Margo & Benjie Allison, and Wanda Cotton. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive and precious canine, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, .
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Special music will be presented by Matthew Roach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1232, Hayesville, NC 28904.

It is with great sadness that the family of Arsel Marvin Lovingood of Young Harris, Ga. announces his passing after a brief illness, on Tuesday February 26, 2019 at the age of 71.
Arsel was a painter and builder most all of his life. He loved gardening and watching things grow, but most of all he loved the Lord, his precious wife, his children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Lovingood was preceded in death by his parents Boyd Lovingood and Inez Johnson Lovingood; brothers, Grady, Leon, Wayne; sisters Marie, Alice, and Mary Ruth.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Donna; son Eugene (Susan) Lovingood; daughter, Deanna (Ernie) Miller; grand children Houston (Casey) Moss, and Heath Moss; brothers, Max, Phillip, and Andrew Lovingood; sisters, Margie Lovingood Allen, and Karen (Frank) Rodriguez; Great Grandchildren, Easton, Kip, and Blakely Moss; Step Great Granddaughter, Piper Hunter.
Funeral Service in memory of Arsel was held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. Rev. Frank Rodriguez and Rev. Chris Rumfeldt officiated. Commital Service and Interment followed at Burch Cemetery, Sunnyside Rd.
The family received friends and aquaintences from 11:00am till the service started at 2:00 pm.

Avery Hezekiah Dills, age 81 of Buford, Georgia passed away on Tuesday evening, February 12, 2019 at his home.
He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: loving wife of 61 years, Estell Berrong Dills; daughter & son-in-law, Teresa & Jeff Treadwell of Newnan, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Thomas Avery & Ann Dills of Dacula, GA; brothers, Ralph Dills of Conyers,GA and Bernell (Carolyn) Dills; sisters, Rosalind Rogers of Virginia Beach, VA, Mary Jo Wimpey, Jeanette (David) Ray, Lula Belle (Pierce) Luther, and Patsy (Dennis) Myers all of Hayesville, NC. Also, sharing in his legacy are 6 grandchildren: Alexandria Dills, Taylor Dills, Jordan Dills, Jodi Dills, Jessica (Justin) Leonard, Jenna Wyatt; and 2 great grandchildren, Carlin Leonard and Brady Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford & Birdie Dills; brother-in-law, Howard Wimpey; and sister-in-law, Jane Dills.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Bro. Richard Sims officiating. Eulogy and Scripture Reading by Lulie Luther and Dennis Myers. Special music was presented by Lynn Odom and Pam Turner. Interment followed at Upper Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery. The family gathered with friends on Friday from Noon until the service began.

Mr. Charles Franklin Woolums, age 74, of Hiawassee, Georgia went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 22, 2019. Charles was born in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late Frank and Myrtle (Johns) Woolums on February 17, 1945. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtle Woolums; daughter, Lisa Taylor; and son, Richard Woolums.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Mrs. Betty Grooms Woolums of Hiawassee, Georgia; son, Jeffrey Woolums of McDonough, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Jose Garcia of Americus, Georgia, Tammy and Terry Pickelsimer of Suches, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Beverly Penland of Cleveland, Georgia; daughter-in-law Kristin Panzarella of Cumming, Georgia; grandchildren, Josh and Lauren Woolums, Joanna, Gracie, and Quinton Garcia, Justin Taylor (Brittany Morris), Chris Woolums (Brian Feeser), Jennifer Sicairos (Govanni Sicairos), Tyler, Jenna, and Katie Penland, Jordan and Savannah Pickelsimer; great grandchildren, Jovanna, Javier and Jaydon Sicairos, Mazie Taylor; sister, Wanda Woolums of West Palm Beach, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Robert Hall of Montezuma, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Ida Woolums of Oglethorpe, Georgia; sister, Bonnie Woolums of Oglethorpe, Georgia, a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Charles was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Banister Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Banister Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Dye and Pastor Brent Penland officiating. Music will be provided by Ken and Betty Nichols. Mrs. Betty Lou (Norton) Pedigo, age 87, of Hiawassee, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. Betty was born on September 24, 1931 to the late Mr. Jack and Sallie (Davis) Norton in Clay Hole, Kentucky. Mrs. Pedigo was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Esther Sunday School Class for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, was an avid bowler, and loved the University of Kentucky Wildcats. She was a devoted wife who traveled around the United States with her husband for his work. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Carol Pedigo of Hughes, Arkansas; daughter and son-in-law Sally Lynn and Mike McLeod of South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law Sue and Hamp Barnett of Tennessee; grandchildren Jason Randall Pedigo, Angela McLeod Odom, William Julius Coons Jr, Julianne Elizabeth Coons Sapp; great grandchildren Colton Pedigo, Austin Pedigo, Raelynn Sapp, Elliott Odom, Georgia Pedigo and Rhett Sapp. She is preceded in death by her husband Barney Rice Pedigo, grandson Michael Shane Pedigo, brothers Jack Norton Jr., and Chelsea Norton; and sister Margaret Alice Norton.

George (Bud) Robert Lederer, age 93, of Young Harris, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Ronnie Greene Heart Center in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Bud was born August 12, 1925 to the late Mr. George Bauer Lederer and Muriel Adele (Rutan) Lederer in Glen Rock, New Jersey. Bud was a member of Mountain Presbyterian Church in Blairsville, Georgia, as well as Military Officers association of America (MOAA) He was a World War II veteran having served for 3 1/2 yrs in the U. S. Navy as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Crescent City. He was a mathematician and chemist with a degree in mechanical engineering, which in turn made him an accomplished businessman. He was a loving husband and father, the glue that held his family together. He is survived by his wife June Lederer; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Richard Gettemy; step-daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Bob Johnson; and step-son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Tina Devecchis. Also surviving are a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous friends. He was well loved by all. A memorial service will be held in the church at a future date to be announced. Sue Parker Johnson, age 74 of Hayesville, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Chatuge Regional Hospital. Sue was born to the late Marvin and Pansy Love Parker on January 20, 1944, in Moultrie,Georgia. Raised in Moultrie, she was a proud alumna of Moultrie High School’s Class of 1962 and remained an avid Packer Football fan her entire life. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Hayesville and loved singing in the choir on Sundays. Sue was a expert gardener- and very proud of her “Master Gardener” certification; she loved nature, especially the mountains and lakes of North Georgia and Western North Carolina. She was a wonderful friend and even better mother. As her friends and family would attest, she was always ready with a big smile and a helping hand; she loved life and she was a constant light in her loved ones’ lives. Sue often said her favorite job was being a Nana to her two beloved grandsons and they loved her dearly in return. Sue is survived by the love of her life and husband of 54 years Michael Johnson; her only daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Britt Swilley of Athens, Georgia; her sister Frances Parker Suber of Moultrie, Georgia; her brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Parker of Dunnellon, Florida; grandson, John Andrew Swilley of Athens, Georgia; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Thomas Hayes and Mary Elizabeth Swilley of Painesville, Ohio/Athens, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Virginia Parker; sister-in-law, Janie Parker; and her much loved 16 year old Cockapoo “Miss Peaches.” Memorial Services will be held in Hayesville, on Saturday January 19th at 11am at Hayesville First United Methodist and in Moultrie on Friday, January 25th at 2pm at the First Baptist Church. Receptions will follow both services. Banister Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
