Hiawassee names Garner as city’s court clerk

HIAWASSEE, Ga. – The City of Hiawassee approved Jennifer Garner as the municipality’s new clerk of court, Tuesday, March 3. Garner, a former paralegal with the law firm Morgan and Morgan, will replace Cenlya Galloway who vacated the position last month. The City of Hiawassee received seven applications, narrowing the decision down to two applicants prior to choosing Garner. “We’re going to go with Jennifer Garner who we all believe has the best resume,” Hiawassee Mayor Liz Ordiales announced at Tuesday’s regular council session. Hiawassee City Council unanimously approved the agenda item. Councilwoman Nancy Noblet described Garner as the “more experienced” candidate, with Councilman Jay Chastain Jr. adding that Garner’s “skillset is more pointed toward clerk of court.”
A court clerk is an administrative worker in the criminal and civil justice systems, typically providing support to judges, attorneys and other officers of the court. Court clerks manage secretarial duties including maintaining court records, distributing orders of the court, and preparing meeting agendas.

Hiawassee City Council additionally approved a lawn maintenance contact with Mountain Living who submitted the lowest bid, the city health insurance contract with Barrett Insurance, the purchase of a $16,000 pump for the wastewater treatment plant, and an alcohol license for Hiawassee Seafood and Grill. Hiawassee Seafood and Grill, formally Barney’s, re-opens for business, March 4. The restaurant is located on Main Street, across from Chatuge Regional Hospital.
Hiawassee City Council will convene for its monthly work session Monday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at Hiawassee City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
