Mrs. Janice “Jan” Pacer, age 61 of Blairsville, passed awaySaturday January 25, 2020 at Union General Hospital. Mrs. Pacer was born March 25, 1958 in Charleroi, PA to the late George and Edith Walters Jan and her family had lived in Blairsville since 1992 when they moved to Blairsville. She was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.
Jan absolutely loved living here in the Blairsville area. She was a very giving person. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was always willing to give to others.
Survivors include: her husband, Theodore “Ted” Pacer, III and son, Matthew Pacer, both of Blairsville.
A visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 28th at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville from 5 until7 p.m.

Clyde E. Cruse, age 79 of Morganton, passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2020, at his home following an extended illness. Clyde was born on August 11, 1940, in Morganton, GA, to the late F. C. Cruse and late Rose Allen Cruse. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Clyde had worked most of his life, in the family sawmill business that his father started in 1942. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and jeep riding, but his favorite pass time was joking with his friends and family.
Survivors include wife, Cathy Kendall Cruse, son, Kelly Cruse, sister, Geneva Cheek, brother, Wayne Allen (Helen) Cruse, sister, Kathy Cruse, granddaughter, Olivia Chastain, great-grandchildren, Joseph Chastian, Makenzie Chastain, Autumn Chastain, and Avery Bright. Funeral services: Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 2:00 pm from the Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Adam Fleming and Rev. Eric Davenport officiating. Music provided by Joseph Chastain, Kimberly, and Jordan Thompson. Pallbearers: Scott Cruse, Steve Cruse, Mason Cruse, Jeremiah Chastain, Donnie Kendall, and Charlie Williams.

Jennifer Leigh Livingston: Obituary
Obituaries January 28, 2020The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Ms. Jennifer Leigh Livingston, age 33 of Hiawassee who passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020.
Jennifer was born in Athens, Georgia on May 8, 1986. She was a bright and determined young woman who always managed to find the silver lining in every situation. Even when a car accident, at the age of 13, drastically changed the course of her life- Jennifer’s sterling character shined through. Jennifer remained optimistic and persevered through her health challenges. She found humor in everything, and matched it with her quick-wit. Jennifer had an artistic flair and enjoyed creating hand-crafted jewelry. She loved talking about college football and especially her beloved, Georgia Bulldogs.
Jennifer’s memory will be treasured by her family: mother, Donna Lynn Livingston; grandmother, Jeanette Livingston; and her uncles and aunts, Clay & Sherri Livingston, Kim & Greg Padgett, and Ty Livingston. She will also be greatly missed by her 10 cousins, numerous extended family members, and her 2 dogs, Pepper and Pony Boy. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Livingston.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Pastor Steve Taylor and Rev. Danny Byers officiating. Special music will be presented by Kayla Pearson and Andrew Rogers. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service begins.

Rose was born December 17, 1939, in Lowell, MA to the late Joseph DeCosta and the late Mildred DeCosta. A member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Rose. Rose enjoyed crocheting and playing dominos. She also enjoyed bowling and a good drag race. She was preceded in death by mother, Mildred Reed, father, Joseph DeCosta, Brother, John DeCosta, son, Steven Schwartz.
Survivors include husband, Frederick Schwartz, Brother, Joseph M DeCosta, Brother, Richard DeCosta, daughter, Sheila St.Germain, grandchild, Amanda Soucy as well as many nieces and nephews.

Obituaries January 28, 2020Mrs. Glenda Sue Stamey, age 81 of Epworth, Ga passed away on Sunday, January 26th, 2020, at her home in Epworth, Ga. Mrs. Stamey was born on March 21st, 1938, in Epworth, Ga, to her late parents Roy Querry and Doris Fisher. Glenda was of the Baptist faith, was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville. Mrs. Stamey enjoyed being a part of the Georgia Mountain Classic Car Club in the Blue Ridge, who enjoy their classic cars. She also enjoyed cross-stitching. She is preceded in death by her parents Roy Querry and Doris Fisher, and sister Linda Gail Querry.
Survivors include her husband, Fairley Stamey, daughter, Cindy Mauldin (Ron), grandchildren, Kelsey Appleby (Tré), Kayla Mauldin, Zachary Mauldin, and Rachael Bonner (Brian).
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, 2020, at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with Rev Matthew McDaniel and Rev. Danny Collis officiating. Johnny Max Hayes: Obituary
Obituaries January 28, 2020Mr. Johnny Max Hayes, age 73 of Blairsville, GA passed away early Sunday morning January 26th, 2020 at his residence.
Mr. Hayes was born on March 1st, 1946 in Monroe, GA to his late parents John Henry Hayes and Nellie Ree (Morrell) Hayes. Johnny worked for General Motors for most of his life, where he was a supervisor. He loved to fish, camp, travel, and the great outdoors and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was a loving husband, father, and PaPaw. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Sybil Ponder, Lynda Farmer, Robbie Lee, and brother, Dillard Hayes.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 30th, 2020 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating. Military honors will be performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol Underwood Hayes of the home in Blairsville, GA; children, Lynn Cameron of Buford, GA, Cindy (Paige Hood) Hayes of Monroe, GA, Patrick (Laura) Hayes of Florida, Robert (Mary) Arp of East Point, GA, Richard (Stacy) Arp of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Julie Floyd, Anna Roper, Natalie Jackson, Wyatt Cameron, Matthew Harmon, Isabel Arp, James Arp, and Alana Arp; 4 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mabel Jones of Bethlehem, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday January 29th at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.

Obituaries January 25, 2020Essie Gwendolyn “Gwen” Johnson, age 76 of Morganton, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 at home. She was born June 18, 1943 in Morganton, Ga. to the late Clories Hughes and the late Ester M. Hughes. She was a dedicated member of Hemptown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Linda, Clidasue, Anita, and Charlene. Gwen was a life long resident of Fannin county and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include husband, Buford Johnson, daughter, Cora (Michael) Dilbeck, daughter, Terri Bentley, son, Greg Stamey, son, David Stamey. As well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday January 27, 2020 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. David Whitner officiating at Hemptown Baptist Church. Interment will follow in The Hemptown Church Cemtery.

Marvin Ballantine: Obituary

Marvin Ballantine age 85, of Hiawassee, Ga passed away on January 21, 2020 in his home. Marvin was born March 5, 1934 to the late Fredrick and Dena (Elenbass) Ballantine. He met his best friend in 1974 and then married her in 1985. Marvin had a love for traveling, hot rods, fast cars and building. He built several houses in Towns County.
Mr. Ballantine is survived by his wife Carla Ballantine; Daughters, Debbie (Gary) Helton and Barbie (Darin) McMurray; grandchildren Sean Helton and Matthew McMurray and many dear family and friends.

Joseph G. MacNeill: Obituary
Obituaries January 25, 2020Mr. Joseph G. MacNeill, AKA Garfield J. MacNeill, age 79 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Tuesday Morning January 21st, 2020.
Mr. MacNeill was born on April 27th, 1940 in Bralorne, BC, Canada to the late Garfield J. and Mabel Morris MacNeill. Joseph worked as an Operating Engineer and for various construction companies for most of his life. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, enjoyed working outside, but loved traveling most of all. Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Per Mr. MacNeill’s request, there are no services planned at this time.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Karen F. MacNeill of the home in Hiawassee, GA; daughter, Kimberly (Corey) Boswell of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren, Brooke, Bre, and Behr Boswell; and a brother, Neil MacNeill of Seattle, Washington.

Lorraine (Arrowood) Cothren age 78, of Hiawassee Ga passed away on January 19th 2020 in her home. Lorriane was born on August 2nd 1941 to the late Ervin and Elizabeth (Potter) Arrowood. Lorriane was a wonderful woman who loved her family and friends with everything she was. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help those she loved.
Lorraine has left this world to be with her ex husband Jerry Cothren, sisters; Christa Belle Cowart, Lougene Clark, Clara Bell Roberts, Flora Mae Dockery, and brother Ervin Vaughn Arrowood Jr., her daughters Brenda Mims and Glenda Murphy.
Ms. Cothren is Survived by her son Eddie Littleton of Young Harris GA, daughter Freda Littleton of Hiawassee GA, Her grandchildren include Wesley (Melody) Berry of Hiawassee GA, Brittany (Adam) Anderson of Wesley IA, Tyler (James) Allbrooks of Sumter SC, also includes Jesse Mims and Tyler Littleton. Great Grandchildren include Tegan and Damion Berry, Jeremiah Murphy and numerous others.

Mrs. Chapman was born on December 13th, 1934 in Miami, Florida to her late parents, James Posey and Myrtis Bell Boyer. Joan was of the Baptist faith, was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church, and enjoyed quilting. She is preceded in death by her husband, Andy Chapman, daughter, Terri Lynn Bell, and her brother, Bro. James Boyer.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 25th, 2020 at 1:00pm from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris Bell, David Bell, Harold Bell, Rusty Fortenberry, Jeff Deavers, Larry Turner, and Steve Boyer all serving as pallbearers.

Obituaries January 22, 2020Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death and funeral services for Mr. Thomas Davidson Miller of Blairsville, who passed away on Sunday evening, January 19th, 2020. David was 56.
David is survived by his parents, Newt and Carol Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Brooke and Nathan Campbell; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Becky Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Greta Miller; and brother and sister-in-law, Jason and April Miller. Obituaries January 22, 2020Woodie Lea Sanders Dale, age 81 of Hiawassee, Ga passed away January 18, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Clifton and Maude Arrowood Sanders. She was preceded in death by sister Montree Sanders and brother Haynes Sanders. Surviving sisters are Gretchel Rogers and Beatrice Kimsey of Hiawassee Ga. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles Dale, who passed away on the same day, January 18th, seventeen years ago. Children are Melissa (Lewis) Kelley, Deborah (Michael) Woody and Justin (Danette) Dale. Grandchildren are Christy (Duane) Miller,
Megan (Matt) Jones, Ian (Kristy) Kelley, Ryan Kelley, Courtney Woody, Kyle (Jaime) Woody, Jeremy Dale, Sterling Dale, Haley Dale, and Emma Dale. Great-grandchildren are Trystin Miller, Jasper & Brent Kelley, Max & Mylie Jones, Bryson, Cooper & Declan Woody, and Trenton Dale.
She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and looked forward to attending every Sunday. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked at Carolina Dress and Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. She was known for her quick wit, joking nature, and love of people. Her favorite hobbies were working in her flowers, cooking, and “talking”. She was often accused of moving the same flowers from one place to another. Her grandchildren loved her for many reasons but particularly for keeping them on their toes and getting their “tag” as they left.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 20th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel
of Cochran Funeral of Hiawassee. Rev. Paul Richards will be officiating. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers, and the granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wade Harold Duffey: Obituary

Mr. Wade Harold Duffey, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 in Hiawassee after an extended illness. Wade was born on September 23, 1942 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Ellen (Adair) Duffey in Atlanta, Georgia. Wade was a member of Mt.Zion Baptist Church, a faithful husband, loving father,and a true servant of the Lord. He was a hard worker; his first career was with General Motors and then he worked for Georgia Power. He was entrepreneurial in buying a dump truck and offering his own dump truck business before going to work with Consolidated Freightways, and he even drove a school bus for Clayton County. He was a chairmen of the deacons at Pinecrest Baptist Church of Morrow, Ga and drove the children’s church school bus for twenty-five years. Wade is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Pat Duffey; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Wendy Duffey of Seymour, TN, Bill and Suzanne Duffey of Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Joe Harbin of Hiawassee, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Don Colemen; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Geleta Nichols Rogers: Obituary

Mrs. Geleta Nichols Rogers, age 81, passed away January 13, 2020. She was born December 17, 1938 in Hiawassee, Georgia to the late Mr. Clarence and Kittie (Nicholson) Nichols. Mrs. Geleta was a life long resident of Towns County, more specifically she was born, raised and lived her entire life on Fodder Creek and for that reason she knew everyone in the area. Mrs. Geleta was nine years old when electricity came to Towns County, she watched the county grow into what we all know Towns County for today. During her school aged years she was in the 4-H club and received an award for book keeping in high school. After high school she was a housekeeper for Young Harris Motel and then later for the Hiawassee Fairgrounds. Geleta was a quilter and made many baby quilts over the years. She also was well known for making fruitcakes for the holidays. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she throughly enjoyed decorating for the season. She was also a hard worker, extremely strong and very independent lady who liked to stay busy. In her own words she “loved her grandbabies”. She was married to the late Mr. William Dale Rogers for 45 years. They loved taking trips to Pigeon Forge for their anniversary and any other time they could get away. Geleta leaves behind one son and daughter-in-law Doug and Karen Rogers of Hiawassee, daughter and son-in-law Devra and Randy Wood of Gainesville, grandchildren Cassandra Banister(Will), Candice Wood, Katlyn Huff(Nick), Trampas Shook, Levi Shook, Justin Shook, Vivien Shook and Katie Smyth; twelve great-grandchildren;Brother- in- law Jay Edwards and may extended family and friends.
