Jerry Lynn Lunsford: Obituary

Obituaries

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mr. Jerry Lynn Lunsford who suddenly passed away on July 17, 2018 at his home.

Jerry was born February 13, 1944 in Canton, Ohio to the late Willie and Faye (Hooper) Lunsford. After, High School, Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force as a military police officer. He later took those skills to the civilian sector to serve in law enforcement on the Marietta Police Department. Jerry’s interest in trucking began with his father, whom he worked with before setting out to build his own very successful business. Hard work, sleepless nights, personal sacrifices, and a genuine effort to please his customers; all led to his success in this industry. Jerry made the business a priority, but often took family with him to spend some quality time (and to help keep him awake) as he delivered a load to the customer.

When not on the road, Jerry had several passions and interests. He was colorful and truly enjoyed his life. With a stable full of horses, Jerry enjoyed his animals. One of the horses that he owned was Ultra’s Night Court, “Bull”, and became the Tennessee Walking Horse World Champion, Owner / Amateur Novice Gentlemen Riders on Novice Stallions with Jerry Up (riding) at the 60th Annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in 1998. He was proud of that accomplishment. He loved to restore antique vehicles and old road tractors to their former glory. He was very sentimental about these things. In fact, he was constantly buying/selling/ doing something. He just couldn’t sit still and had to be active. Another interest was developing a chrome shop to coincide with his projects. Jerry was quiet and reserved with a protective, perhaps even stubborn nature about him. He cracked jokes to lighten things up because he couldn’t stand to see someone downtrodden. It has been said that Jerry would “battle the world before putting anything on someone else”.

He leaves behind to treasure his memory: his son & daughter-in-law, Dane & Chelsey Grayson; grandson, Gunnar Grayson; sister & brother-in-law, Debra & Jim Hodges; brother & sister-in-law, Terry & Rebecca Lunsford; niece & her husband, Katie & Dustin Walker; nephew & his wife, Brad & Renee Lunsford. Numerous extended family also survive. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held on 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Nicholson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service begins. Interment will follow at Enotah Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee.
