Howard “Dobbin” Garrett, age 82 of Hayesville, died Friday, March 18, 2016 in a Sylva hospital. He was a native of Towns County, Georgia, but had lived in Clay County for most all of his life. He was a retired electrician. He was heavily involved in the community throughout his life including service on the volunteer fire department and rescue squad. He was a faithful member of Truett Memorial First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Dobbin was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Hiawassee River Bass Club.
He was the son of the late Glemra W. and Edna Hunter Garrett. He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Aud, Claude, Flaud, and Narvel Garrett.
Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Frances Henson Garrett; two daughters, Tina G. Ford and husband, Jim of Maryville, Tennessee and Angie G. Duncan and husband, David of Cumming, Georgia; a son, Randy Garrett and wife, Lisa of Hayesville; a sister, Wanda G. Holmes of Hiawassee, Georgia; a sister in law, Eddie Lee Garrett; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2016 in the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. Interment will be in the Hayesville Baptist/Presbyterian Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Pallbearers will be Alex Duncan, Jeff Eller, Jason Lenning, Michael Robb, Ryan Troyer, and Tim Davenport. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Davenport, Mickey Powell, David Ray, Ed Roach, Paul Swanson, and the members of the Hiawassee River Bass Club.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.
