Ninth Annual Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes fundraiser

Community

Our Ninth Annual Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes fundraiser is this week and I am excited to have the opportunity to witness the outpouring of love from our community for these children. In past years, we have raised thousands of dollars for this great cause.  All proceeds from the event will go directly to support the children of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes and all contributions are tax deductible.

This will be our second year to hold a Youth Homes banquet, as well as the trap shoot. We will be raffling off some great items again this year. The trap shoot will be held Friday, June 16 th , 2017 at the Chatuge Gun Club Range from 8:00am until around 5:00 pm. The banquet will be held Saturday, June 17 th at the Towns County Recreation and Conference Center, located at 150 Foster Park, Young Harris, GA beginning at 5:30pm. The dinner will feature silent auctions, raffles, and live music by the Chris Clinton Band.

Helping the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes is something that means a lot to me and all the other people who lend a hand. None of the children in the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes have ever been in trouble. These children are good kids that are only asking for a chance. I believe in the mission of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes and that is why I am always glad to lend a hand. I am very thankful for all of those who helped make last year’s event a success. I hope that you will all return again this year and please bring your family and friends.

Tickets to the banquet can be purchased from the Sheriff’s Office at the Towns County

Courthouse at 48 River Street, Suite F, Hiawassee, GA.

2017 Towns County Fire Corps Fundraiser

Community, News

HIAWASSEE, GA – Towns County Fire Corps is requesting donations from the community to purchase much needed equipment. As recent wildfires raged in northern Georgia and throughout several southern states, Towns County Fire and Rescue recognized a need for standard wildland gear. The Fire Corps hopes to purchase a Polaris 6×6 Utility Vehicle in order to travel the rugged trails and abundant off road areas throughout the county.

“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”

Additional funds raised will provide training and safety products for the firefighters.

57 volunteer firefighters serve Towns County and 2123 calls were dispatched in 2016 alone, an increase of 350 additional calls from the previous year. In addition to managing structure, brush and wildland fires, Towns County firefighters also assist Emergency Medical Services, perform vehicle extrication and hazardous material mitigation, and conduct land/lake rescues. The Appalachian Trail winds through the eastern portion of the county and hiker assistance is a common occurrence.

Raise Money For The Children

Community

Each year, Towns County Sheriff Chris Clinton, the Chatuge Gun Club, and Towns County Sheriff’s CLEA members join efforts to raise money for the children of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. Community involvement and support has made this annual event a tremendous success each year. Many local businesses take part in the effort. This year, Brothers at Willow Ranch in Young Harris, donated 20% of the meals purchased by participating patrons on two separate evenings. On Wednesday, June 07, 2017, Sheriff Chris Clinton received a check for the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes from Michelle Barnard, a manager at Brothers at Willow Ranch, Young Harris. Incidentally, Brothers at Willow Ranch will also be catering the meal for the fundraising dinner to benefit the children of the Youth Homes. That event will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 5:30 PM and will feature a meal, raffles, prizes, and live music by the Chris Clinton Band. Tickets are $25.00. There are only a few left. Tickets to the banquet can be purchased at the Towns County Courthouse in the Sheriff’s Office.

Thanks to all those who have participated in this charitable effort to provide hope for these children.
