Mr. George Darrell Shook age 66 of State Hwy 66, Young Harris, passed away peacefully on Friday May 5, 2017 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Shook was born on November 14, 1950 in Murphy NC, the son of the late Jack C. and Edna Sparks Shook. Mr. Shook served in the US Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart award from the Vietnam War. He was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church and the Stephens Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by sisters Mae Stamey, Dorothy Mathis, Glenda Blankenship and infant Gail Shook; brothers Cecil Shook and J.C. Shook.

Surviving Mr. Shook is his wife and best friend Joyce, son and daughter-in-law Landon and Felisea Shook of Young Harris GA, son and daughter-in-law Darrin and Angie Shook of Hayesville NC, his Yorki Sissy, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Jackie Green of Norcross GA, brother-in-law Henry Blankenship of Cathlamet WA, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jane and Mark Taylor of Turtletown TN; six grandchildren Brett and wife Jana Shook, Madison Shook, Brieanna Shook, Cheyanne Shook, Amber Day Taylor, and Jacob Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Adreona Shook, Hadley Rae Welch, and arriving in July Braelyn Shook. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Old Brasstown Baptist Church cemetery fund. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Old Brasstown Baptist Church.
