Mrs. Opal Mae Berrong: Obituary

Mrs. Opal Mae Berrong, age 88 of Hiawassee, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at North East Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Berrong was born in Towns County, Georgia on October 7, 1927 to the late Leonard M. & Bertha (Underwood) Nicholson. Opal was one of 7 children. Her life was spent in Towns County, and it centered around serving her God and her family. A member of Bell Scene Baptist Church, She was a woman of strong faith in her Lord and Savior. This was evident in the life that she lived. She enjoyed hobbies such as gardening and quilting, but she absolutely treasured the time she spent with family.

Opal leaves behind to cherish her memory: her sons & daughters-in- law, David & Dorothy Ann Berrong, Daniel & Diane Berrong, and Edward & Brenda Sue Berrong; her son, Phillip Berrong; her daughter & son-in-law, Shirley & Frank Blair; and her brother & sister-in-law, Wade & Jewell Nicholson. Also, sharing in her legacy are 7 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great- Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Berrong; her parents; 5 siblings; and 3 of her grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Denny Moss officiating. Interment will follow in Bell Scene Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as Pallbearers: Randy Puett, Bill Berrong, John Landers, Michael West, Justin Blair, and Jeremy Blair. Honorary Pallbearers will include all of the Great Grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
