Mary Susan McAfee Moody, age 89, joined our heavenly angels on October 17, 2015.  She was born on Oct. 31, 1925, to Douglas and Elizabeth Bedell McAfee (Bess) in Atlanta, grew up in Raleigh, N.C., and moved back to Atlanta where she raised her family until she moved to Hiawassee, Ga. in 1989.  Sue was full of life and a great storyteller, as well as a wonderful listener.  She delighted in being a trailblazer as one of the first women real estate agents in Atlanta and led by example to support opportunities for children and adults with Down Syndrome. Sue was preceded in death by her beloved son, Michael Timothy Moody, in 1994 who spent his last years in Hiawassee bringing much joy and love to all around him.  Both Sue and Timmy loved the mountains and the lake and will be memorialized by family members at the Hamilton Rhododendron Garden.  The family will receive friends on Sat. Oct. 31 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Hiawassee United Methodist Church where Sue was a member.  Sue was also preceded in death by her adored siblings Don D. McAfee and Irene McAfee Moore.  Sue is survived by her vivacious sister, Betty McAfee Ziebell and four loving children:  Susan M. Green and Peggy M. Gardner of Atlanta, Dr. W. E. (Bill) Moody of Hiawassee and William Scott Moody of Washington, N.C.  She has 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild:  Meg Green and her son Austin Massie, Doug Green; Gina and Jonathan Gardner; William, Melissa, Robert and Elizabeth Moody; and Forrest and Danielle Latham.  She is also survived by her niece Peggy Stumpf and nephews Vick and Doug Moore; plus Don, Kurt, and Mike Ziebell and their families.  Sue loved her Scottish heritage, her independence, dancing to big band music, painting and writing, real estate, driving fast, her dog Dorrie and, most important, fiercely loved her family and those they loved: Janet Moody, Tomi Moody, Mike Gardner and Tony Green.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to go to the Down Syndrome Center, c/o Helen Smith, Emory University, Mailstop: 1370-003-1AB, 1462 Clifton Rd, Suite 300, Atlanta, GA 30322.  Remembrances may be given to Banister Funeral Home in Hiawassee which is handling arrangements.
