Robert Harold “Bobby” Swanson, Jr.: Obituary


Robert Harold “Bobby” Swanson, Jr., age 65, of Atlanta and formerly of Murray County passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his residence.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Harold Swanson, Sr., and mother, Mary Wahlice Cochran Swanson.

He is survived by his sisters, Donna Swanson Smith, Jane Swanson Ridley, and Linda Swanson Kilgore –  all of Chatsworth, and their children.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home.

Peeples Funeral Home & Crematory of Chatsworth is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Swanson.

SEPTEMBER 12, 1955 ~ OCTOBER 13, 2018 (AGE 63)

Mr. Robert Jeffrey Scott, age 63, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018. Mr. Scott, better known as Jeff, was born September 12, 1955 to Mr. Joseph Scott and Mrs. Joan (LaFon) Scott in Welch, West Virginia. Jeff was a member at Macedonia Baptist Church. After losing his wife Lisa in 2013, Jeff  semi-retired from his business 3D Construction Services. He continued to love his farm and had a new love for his bees from which he hoped to harvest honey. Jeff also enjoyed fishing often. He was a hard worker who provided for his family but also was there for all of his daughters’ school and life events. Jeff is survived by his mother Joan Scott of North Judson, Indiana; daughters and sons-in-law; Brittany and Blake Chastain of Hiawassee, Katie and Beau Kelley of Young Harris; daughter Sara Scott of Hiawassee; grandchildren Bryer and Branch Chastain of Hiawassee; girlfriend Kathy Ledford of Hiawassee; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Natalie Scott and brother Jon Scott. Jeff also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation: Monday, October 15, 2018 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church

Funeral Service: Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Bradley Thomas Officiating

Interment: Macedonia Cemetery following funeral service

John “Jack” Robert Van Nus Jr.: Obituary


Mr. John “Jack” Robert Van Nus Jr., age 92, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his adoring family. Jack was born on April 2, 1926 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to the late John Robert Sr. and Isabel (Zimmer) Van Nus. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served our country during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. After serving in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Barbara Smith on June 17, 1949. Jack was a hard worker and painted homes for many years. In his spare time, he would watch the Atlanta Braves or go fishing. He also loved to bake bread. He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church for 48 years. Jack was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Van Nus and a sister, Betty Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mrs. Barbara Smith Van Nus; son, John Robert Van Nus III; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lee and David Barrett; son, Paul Richard Van Nus; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Ed Sanders; sisters, Nancy Slavik and Jo Ann Sargent; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A memorial service will be held on on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Danny Byers officiating at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00PM. The family will continue to meet with friends after the service in the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Benevolence Fund. Donations may be sent to 84 Church Street Hiawassee, Georgia 30546 or to P.O.
