TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. – Two former officials with the Towns County Sheriff’s Office were arrested Tuesday following separate investigations conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to authorities.

Former Sergeant Andrew Glass, previously assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, and former Major of Law Enforcement Operations Johnny McCoy were each taken into custody on Jan. 6, 2026. Both men had been terminated from their positions prior to or at the time of their arrests.

In Glass’ case, Sheriff Anthony Coleman requested the GBI conduct an independent investigation on Dec. 19, 2025, after two firearms were reported missing from the sheriff’s office gun inventory. The investigation resulted in the recovery of one firearm and Glass’ arrest. He has been charged with Theft by Conversion, Violation of Oath of Office, and False Statements. Glass is expected to be booked into the Towns County Detention Center. The investigation remains active.

McCoy was arrested in a separate matter stemming from an investigation requested in July 2025 by Enotah Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Joy Parks. The GBI investigated a theft allegation within the accountability court program, where McCoy, a sworn law enforcement officer, had been hired as a surveillance officer. Authorities say discrepancies were identified during a review of required home visits with program participants, leading to the investigation and subsequent charges. McCoy has been charged with Theft by Deception, Violation of Oath of Office, and three counts of False Statements and Writings, and will be booked into the Union County Detention Center. That investigation is also ongoing.

Sheriff Coleman commended the GBI for its professionalism and thanked sheriff’s office investigators who assisted with both cases. He also recognized deputies and staff who continue to serve the community with integrity. Because the GBI is the charging agency in both matters, the sheriff’s office said it would provide no further comment.

Anyone with information related to either investigation is encouraged to contact the Towns County Sheriff’s Office at 706-896-4444 or the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Cleveland at 706-348-4866. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the GBI tip line at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or online.

Upon completion of the investigations, the case files will be submitted to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
