HIAWASSEE, Ga. – Towns County Senior Center is hosting its second annual “Memory Heart Tree” program during the month of February. The community is encouraged to purchase a memory heart in remembrance of a loved one to be placed on the center’s tree of memories. The gesture will provide a hot meal for a homebound senior citizen in Towns County, ages 65 to 102.
At the end of the month, the heart will be attached and delivered to a meal for a Meals on Wheels recipient. One side of the heart reads “Your wings were ready, but my heart was not.” The other side will provide a space to pen the name of the loved one in honor of the meal that was sponsored. The $4.oo heart will cover the cost of a meal for a local elder.
To become a sponsor, visit the Towns County Senior Center at 954 N. Main St, in Hiawassee. All proceeds will benefit the local Meals on Wheels program.
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, community based organization that is dedicated to providing nutrition and helping to eliminate elderly isolation. Towns County Senior Center expressed appreciation to Sharp Memorial Church for volunteering to deliver meals on Mondays and Tuesdays to seniors residing on the Bell Creek route, and to the all of the volunteers who offer their time to the program.
