Towns County Meals on Wheels

HIAWASSEE, Ga. – The Towns County Senior Center “Meals on Wheels” program is asking for assistance in providing hot meals for local, homebound seniors.

Generous donations from the community provide meals for a day, a week, a month, or a year. The cost to provide a one-time meal is $3.80, a week for $19.00, a month for $76.00, or an entire year for $912.00.

“Towns County Senior Center currently has a waiting list,” a spokesperson for the Towns County Senior Center explained, “We currently provide a meal for a World War II veteran and three seniors over the age of 100 who are still able to stay at home because of the meals received weekly.

“Towns County has one of the largest per capita percentages of senior population. We want to ensure every senior needing a meal and struggling to stay independent and at home receives our help. Please help us preserve this vital program in our community.”

Donations can be delivered to the Towns County Senior Center at 954 North Main St. in Hiawassee – in person or by mail – Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Checks should be made payable to “Meals on Wheels.”

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated by the non-profit organization.
