Indians Take Heartbreaking Loss

The Towns County Indians welcomed the Fannin Lady Rebels to their home field on Monday for a non region softball match up.  The Lady Indians have had rough 2018 season thus far but all can change with one swing of the bat.  Towns has not scored a lot of runs in most games but in others they have scored enough to normally get a win.  Monday was one of those games.

In the first inning both teams were unable to put anything on the board.  The Lady Rebels score two runs in the top half of inning #2 and without hesitation the Lady Indians answered with five of their on in the bottom half.  With the momentum now in the favor of Towns, it would have been easy for the Rebels to lay down.  Unfortunately they did not putting 3 more up in the top half of the third to knot things up at five each.  The Lady Indians would have a few opportunities in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings and couldn’t get any runners across the plate.

The Fannin Lady Rebels would take the lead for good in the sixth inning scoring one and add seven more to the board in the front end of the seventh.  Towns scratched two rund in the last half but could not match the number put up by their opponent.  Taking a late heartbreaking loss to the Fannin Lady Rebels, Abby Mauldin pitched all seven innings allowing just 3 hits.  Mauldin also gave up 8 walks and had 6 strikeouts.  The story in this game were the Lady Indian Miscues in the field.  Towns had 5 errors in the top half of the seventh which weighed heavy in the big inning for Fannin.

Several Lady Indians had a good day at the plate helping score enough runs to win the game. Sophia Shook and Ella Burry both had a hit and scored 1 run. Other Lady Indians who had a good day were Rylie Livingston was 1-3 with a walk, a strikeout and scored a run, Jayce Young was 2-4 with 1 run scored, 1 RBI and had 2 strikeouts.  The Lady Indians had 6 hits on the day at the plate and in the field there were 9 errors for the game.

Next up for the Towns County Lady Indians will be a trip to Hebron Cgristian Academy on Thursday August 30th for a region game.  The scheduled start time is 4:45 PM.
