Towns County 4-H hopes to send additional students to Camp Wahsega

HIAWASSEE, Ga. – As warmer months inch closer, Towns County 4-H is hoping to send 35 students to Camp Wahsega in Dahlonega from June 4 to 8, 2018.

The camp offers numerous activities for students, such as zip-lining, archery, a high rope challenge course, river tubing, pond swimming, and waterfall sliding. Towns County students will join approximately 200 students from other counties. Campers will break into four different groups – the Hatfields, McCoys, Clampetts, and McDougals -while competing in good fun for bragging rights. Last year, the students traveled to Eagle Rock 4-H Camp in Eatonton and many are hoping to partake again this summer.

Towns County 4-H is currently running a scholarship campaign and say they would appreciate the help of individuals and businesses that would like to contribute to the cause.

“I am a firm believer that summer camp is the most important activity that any child can participate in,” said Andrew Smith, Towns County’s 4-H extension resource manager. “I encourage all my students to go to a camp. It doesn’t have to be 4-H camp. I just want them to all experience the joy that surrounds summer camp. I’m hoping to take every kid that wants to go so that they can make memories that last a lifetime. That’s why I am asking local businesses to help with the scholarship campaign. Not only are they helping to fund a student, but they are making a difference in that child’s life.”

Camp is $300 per student and the extension office offers scholarships to students who express the need for financial assistance.

For more information or to sponsor a student, contact Andrew Smith at the 4-H Extension Office at 706-896-2024 or AndrewSmith128@uga.edu.
