Fatal Accident Claims the Life of Food Pantry Director

Hiawassee, GA –  On Wednesday, September 20, shortly after 10:30 a.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Upper Bell Creek Road.

Mr. Richard Botting, well known as the director of the Towns County Food Pantry, was rushed by ambulance to the Air Life helicopter for emergency medical transport.

Sadly, he did not survive the accident.

Mr. Botting has been described as a kind man, well loved by the community. The loss is certain to be far felt.

“I knew Richard personally and my thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time,”  Sheriff Chris Clinton expressed.

Commissioner Cliff Bradshaw added, ” My heart is saddened by this tragic loss. Not only was Richard a tremendous asset to Towns County, but I considered him a friend. Richard was an honest and caring man with servant’s heart; this was showcased by his devotion to the Towns County Food Pantry and his service on the Industrial Board. Richard will be missed by many as he definitely made a positive impact on all that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.”

Commissioner Bradshaw included Biblical Scripture, Revelations 14:1.

“Then I heard a voice from Heaven say, write: Blessed be the dead who die in the Lord from now on. “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident at the request of the Towns County Sheriff’s Office.
