Aggravated Battery Suspect Arrested

Towns County, GA – On Wednesday, August 30th, Sonny Freyre, Jr., age 21 of Hayesville, North Carolina, was arrested and booked into the Towns County Detention Center on one count of Aggravated Battery in reference to a physical altercation, which was reported to have occurred at the Sand Bar located on Highway 76 in Hiawassee.

Towns County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Sand Bar during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 20th.

Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject, identified as Jeremy Austin Hall, lying on the ground and severely injured, being treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel. He was transported from the scene and admitted to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The incident was turned over to Towns County Sheriff’s investigators who were assisted by an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to follow up on the altercation. Sheriff’s Office investigators identified and interviewed 26 witnesses. Further evidence was collected.

After an extensive investigation, Towns County Sheriff’s investigators secured an arrest warrant, charging Sonny Freyre, Jr. with Aggravated Battery. The victim is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.

The case will be forwarded to the Towns County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
