Mrs. Elnora Sosebee, age 97 of Young Harris, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Sosebee was born on August 29, 1919 in Young Harris, the daughter of the late George Powell and the late Flora Henson Powell. She was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. Elnora loved gardening, quilting, reading, playing cards, and solving puzzle books. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Sosebee, son, Jerry William Sosebee, grandson, Robert Scott Sosebee, son-in-law, Joe Thomas, Jr. daughter-in-law, Amanda Sosebee, brother, Sam Powell, four sisters, Elsie Brock, Ida Ledford, Stella Sosebee and Edra Matheson. Mrs. Sosebee was a member of West Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Sosebee are two daughters and one son-in-law, Jean Thomas of Young Harris, Edith and Earl Hunter of Lilburn, four sons and three daughters-in-law, Bill and Geraldine Sosebee of Buford, Donald Sosebee of Marble, Fred and Carolyn Sosebee of Gainesville, George and Wanda Sosebee of Young Harris, Special nephew, Allen Sosebee of Young Harris, seven grandchildren, Quilla Thomas-Bradley, Zack, Leon, Leroy and Larry Sosebee, Jana Lawrence and Wendy Rogers, thirteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special music will be presented by Josie Bradley. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Eddie Bradley, Zack, Leon and Pat Sosebee, Dereck Johnson and Wesley Rogers. Interment will follow in the West Union Baptist Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Elmer. Flowers are accepted, or if you wish, donations may be made to the West Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Mrs. Sosebee’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
