Mr Holcomb was born in Martin, Ga. February 22, 1924 the son of the late William L. Holcomb and late Maggie Bradley Holcomb. George loved the Georgia Bulldogs and one of the first places he took his future wife Ellen when they started dating was to a Bulldogs game. After moving to Hiawassee 27 yrs ago, he came to love the mountains, working in his yard, he loved carpentry and most of all his loving wife and family. George received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Georgia and went on to become the production manager of a metal fabrication business. He had a great sense of humor and according to his family was a ” Tough Old Bird ”
Mr Holcomb was preceded in death by brothers– John Hoyt, Ralph, Roy, Swain and Winfred Holcomb; and sisters–Louise Wood, Pat Barrett, and Retha Bowers.
Surviving family members are his loving wife of 59 yrs. Ellen Graham Holcomb; daughter, Sandy McMenimen, (James) of McDonough, Ga.; son, Randall Holcomb (Lisa) of Canton, Ga.; brother, Tom Holcomb; sisters, Evelyn Sanders and Emily Mahoney. Six (6) grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday January 7, 2017 at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Danny Byers officiating. The family will receive friends and acquaintances from 12:00 pm until the service time.
