Mr. Rex Lee Dockery: Obituary


Mr. Rex Lee Dockery age 61 of Young Harris passed away on Thursday April 13, 2017 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Rex was born on June 5, 1955 in Union County, the son of Hazel Gilbert Dockery and the late Rev. Dexter Lee Dockery. Rex fought a very hard and courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was a fighter and tried so hard to get better. Rex was a very loving son, brother and uncle. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. He never met a stranger. Rex had worked at the Shoe Factory, Owenby Manufacturing and for David Tanner at the Chevron Station before becoming self-employed, doing what he loved, hauling and raising cattle and goats. He loved being outside and taking care of his animals. Hauling himself and his dad to every cattle sale around until his dad passed away sixteen months ago and Rex became sick not long after this. He was always there taking care of his dad and mom.

Rex will be so deeply and sadly missed by his mother Hazel, brother and sister in law Gary and Sherry Dockery, sister and brother in law,Linda Dwight Anderson, one niece, Brandi and Aaron McGaha, two nephews Travis Dockery and Chad Anderson, three great nephews, Austin, Dillon, and Nathan McGaha. Other relatives, several cousins, and a number of friends also survive.

We will hold your memory near and dear in our hearts always- till we meet you again. It is not really goodbye- but we’ll see you in the morning. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 2:00PM in the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. R.L. Martin and Pastor Ray Potts officiating. Special Music will be presented by the Hemphill Family. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Eddie Gilbert, Steve Gilbert, Teddy Gilbert, Rev. Tony Gilbert, David Tanner, Rev. J. J. Lynch, Travis Dockery, and Chad Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Charles Raper, Johnny Hamby, Doug Chastain, and Archie Coker. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Sunday, April 16, 2017 from 6:00PM-9:00PM at Mountain View Funeral Home. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the local arrangements.
