The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces services for Mrs. Willette Patton Hooper, age 100 of Morganton, GA, formerly of Hiawassee, who passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Hooper was born September 14, 1915 in Clay County, NC to the late Holt and Annie Jones Patton. Willette was also a member of the Hiawassee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of Berry College and Western Carolina College. Mrs. Hooper was a teacher for 38 years in Clay County, NC, Hiawassee and Morganton, GA. She taught mostly the first grade where she was a loving mother to the students during their time at school. Mrs. Hooper helped shape countless lives during her years of teaching where the children learned not only school work, but also respect and pride for our nation. Willette modeled Christian love to her students.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Hooper, Sr.; one sister, Jenny Lou Long; and 4 brothers; Zeb Patton, Lawrence Patton, John Patton and Andrew Patton.

Survivors include: son, Thomas (Sandra) Hooper, Jr. of Morganton, sister, Mattie Hall of Hayesville, Brother, Burgess (Ann) Patton of Grayson, GA, Brother, Richard (Jane) Patton Hayesville, grandsons, Bartly Hooper of Morganton, Bradly (Debbie) Hooper of Marietta, GA, and Randy (Vanessa) Hooper of Canton, Ga, and great grandchildren, Gareth Smith, Katie Hooper, Jake Hooper, and Ryan Hooper.

Funeral services: Monday, May 2, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with the Rev. Tim Taylor officiating. Music will be provided by Teresa Ross and Margaret Crawford. Interment will follow in Osborn Cemetery in Hiawassee. Serving as pallbearers: Bartly Hooper, Bradly Hooper, Randy Hooper, Charles Hall, Anthony Hall, Timothy Hall.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Monday, May 2, 2016, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Flowers are welcomed, however, if you wish, the family suggests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
